Andy Kim is an alumnus of Northwestern and oversees Asian American chapter and House On The Rock, our African American fellowship. His ministry responsibilities include developing student leaders, preaching and teaching, training and leading in musical worship, evangelism and engaging the campus on the faculty and staff level. A native Chicagoan, Andy is an active member of New Community Covenant Church in the Logan Square neighborhood where he serves as one of the worship leaders. He is currently pursuing his Masters of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

 

Kathy Shiau works with IVCF. Kathy grew up in New Jersey, graduated from the University of Michigan, and now lives in Evanston with her husband Dan. She became a Christian during her freshman year of college, and she served as an intern with InterVarsity for 2 years after graduation. She went back to school to receive an MA in Counseling Psychology and has been with InterVarsity at Northwestern for a year. Kathy loves to read, cook, host, travel, create, design, organize, and see change in people’s lives.

 

Sophia Hsiao works with Arts Fellowship and IVCF. She grew up in the Chicago area and got her bachelors degree in Violin Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduating in 2009, she came on staff and this is her third year serving with InterVarsity. She and her husband Ron have been married since summer 2011 and they currently live in Des Plaines.

 

 

Ryan Mercer oversees the Greek InterVarsity chapter at NU. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 2010 with a degree in Environmental Engineering and served for one year with Greek InterVarsity at Purdue. Ryan is a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and loves helping fraternity and sorority members figure out how they can be fully Greek and fully Christian. Ryan is also a musician and enjoys leading worship at various InterVarsity functions.

 

Emery Silva is an alumna of Northwestern and started the Greek InterVarsity chapter at NU in the late 90′s. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Emery and her husband John have 3 kids. They live in Evanston and attend the Evanston Vineyard church.

 

 

Andrés Hererra graduated from the University of Illinois and is originally from Colombia. He directs the LaFe ministry to Latino/a students at Northwestern. He also oversees ministry to Latino/a students at several other campuses in the Chicago area, including UIC and Aurora University. In recent years, Andrés has led several student mission groups to Mexico City.

 

 

Vanessa Whitsett graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and found Christ through IV as a student. She now volunteers with the African American chapter, House on The Rock, at Northwestern University. She is also a member of The Apostolic Church of God (ACOG) under the leadership of Dr. Bryan T. Brazier. She also volunteers with ACOG’s childrens church where she is learning the art of teaching the inner city youth about the Good News. Vanessa enjoys servanthood, and consistently searches for more opportunities to serve.
